Trust Pari

Trust Pari is a contraceptive injection containing a progestin (150 mg Medroxyprogesterone acetate). It is injected intramuscularly (usually the upper arm or buttocks) by a healthcare professional every 3 months. It is also known as DMPA-IM.

Trust Pari prevents pregnancy by:

  • Supressing ovulation (release of an egg)
  • Thickening the cervical mucus, so sperm cannot reach the egg
  • Thinning the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation
  • Provides 12 weeks of contraception from 1 single injection

Trust Pari can be used by women who:

  • Cannot use combined oral contraceptives
  • Are breast feeding (infant over the age of 6 weeks old)
  • Who have just completed an abortion or miscarriage

Trust Pari is not recommended for women who have:

  • Severe hypertension, ischemic heart disease or history of stroke
  • A history of or active breast cancer, liver cancer or severe liver disease
  • Vascular disease or acute deep venous thrombosis
  • Effective pregnancy prevention
  • Discrete method of contraception
  • Reliable contraception method for women who cannot take estrogen

Some women may experience side effects following administration of Trust Pari. They usually subside after a few weeks and ease with subsequent dose injection every 12 weeks.

Side effects may include:

  • Initially heavier period bleeding but can decrease to no period bleed
  • Menstrual changes
  • Weight changes
  • Headache
  • Mood changes
  • Decreased desire to have sex (libido)
